Thursday marks the 40th anniversary of Aberdeen's European Cup Winners Cup victory over Real Madrid.
The players are being honored by the club and local council and will get the Freedom of the local of Aberdeen on Friday during a ceremony.
The 12 players that took the field for Sir Alex Ferguson's team at the Ullevi Stadium in 1983 to defeat Madrid 2-1 in overtime are remembered here by the PA news agency.
Following Ferguson to Old Trafford in 1988, Jim Leighton spent time with Dundee and Hibernian before calling it quits in 2000 at Pittodrie. With 91 international games, he holds the record for most caps by a goalie in Scotland. He served two stints as Aberdeen's goalkeeping coach until quitting sport in 2015 to work in the oil and gas industry.
Doug Rougvie: The big full-back joined Chelsea in 1984 and played for the Blues for three seasons. After playing for Brighton, Fulham, Shrewsbury, Dunfermline, and Montrose, Rougvie earned his lone Scotland cap against Northern Ireland in 1983. Rougvie also managed Montrose as well as Huntly and Cove Rangers. After leaving Cove in 1998, Rougvie's football career came to an end, and he went into engineering.
Several of Aberdeen's games over his playing career, where he won 12 major titles. He became a player-manager for Motherwell in 1994 and afterwards managed Hibernian, Rangers, Scotland twice, Birmingham, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Genk, and Egyptian team Zamalek. 2019 saw the end of his last managing position with Scotland. Eight significant awards were won by him, including the League Cup with Birmingham and two manager promotions. The 64-year-old makes TV commentator appearances.
Willie Miller: The captain managed Aberdeen from 1992 to 1995 and has a long history with the club. Miller later became a member of the Pittodrie board, served briefly as director of football, and spent many years as a pundit on BBC Radio Scotland.
John McMaster, a midfielder who also played left back for Gothenburg, spent 15 years at Pittodrie before departing in 1987 to spend his final season of play for Morton, his hometown team. McMaster was hired as the club's assistant manager before going on to scout for teams like Middlesbrough and Swansea.
