Oliver Kahn, CEO of Bayern Munich, has disclosed that his team tried everything possible to sign Erling Haaland last summer.

When it became known that the attacker would be leaving Borussia Dortmund last year, there was a heated transfer battle; in the end, he joined Manchester City for an initial £51.2 million.

In his first year in England, he went on to enjoy a record-breaking season, breaking the mark for the most goals scored in a Premier League season, and he is now assisting City in their push for the FA Cup, Champions League, and Premier League.

Haaland, who has already developed into one of the most dangerous attackers in Europe, appears destined to spearhead City's attack for many years to come as long as they keep winning prestigious competitions.

However, if Bayern had the financial resources to sign the Norwegian, things might have turned out differently. According to Khan via Sport Bild, the club went to "financial limits" to try and recruit the player.

One year ago, we tried everything for Erling Haaland and stretched our budget to its utmost,' Kahn stated.

We had to consider whether or not to separate pay structures. For that, we weren't prepared. That's not very Bayern."

With 31 games played, Bayern is presently one point ahead of Haaland's previous team Dortmund in the race for the Bundesliga title.

They have had a challenging season by their standards, losing to City in the quarterfinals of the Champions League (Haaland scored twice against them) and losing to SC Freiburg 2-1 in the same round of the German Cup.

The team replaced Julian Nagelsmann as manager midway through the campaign with Thomas Tuchel, and they now run the risk of missing out on the German domestic league title for the first time in 11 years.

In the meantime, City appears destined to win the Premier League and will take on Manchester United in the FA Cup final the following month.

With Haaaland at the center of the team's plans, they drew the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid on Tuesday and will be the favorites to win the second leg at the Etihad the following week.
