Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has asked Harry Kane to terminate his contract before leaving Tottenham on a free basis and thinks the club has "failed" in recent seasons.
The 29-year-old striker will have just one year left on his contract this summer and has been linked with Manchester United and Bayern Munich - but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is still demanding a fee in excess of Ł100m.
Wenger believes Kane deserves the hefty transfer fee despite his contract situation, although he predicts he could cut his contract further and reevaluate his options in the coming weeks. next year.
Speaking on beIN SPORTS on Wednesday night, the Arsenal legend said:
'If you were his agent, Harry Kane is still a year old, in a year he will be completely free, what would you say to him?
“Give your club one last chance and then you leave. "The problem is not the money, but in the end, the problem is always the money.
“He will not cost less than Ł80m. You cannot find attackers of this quality.
Earlier this week, Kane gave an interview hinting he could stay in north London and said he would speak to the club's management about the cultural change at Tottenham over the summer.
Wenger feels there is meaning behind Kane's words and believes the England captain will be disappointed that the rest of the team have struggled to keep up with his level in recent seasions.
Referencing Kane's interview, Wenger continued:
"That means not everyone is at peak performance in training to be good enough in the game." "Is it because of the personalities of the players or the whole atmosphere inside the training ground or the coaches?" I do not know.
“You have to live with the players every day to know what is really going on, what is working and what is not.
"You have to create a culture inside the club that allows players to express themselves.
“You need clear rules so people can see what you accept and what you don't. When you talk about values, most of the time it's about what is not tolerated.
“Players like Harry Kane have high standards. Now he's frustrated that the team has been tracking the rise for years. In two or three years, they seem to fail again.
