Maurico Pochettino, a former Tottenham manager, is still expected to take over at Chelsea, where he would inherit a talented but underperforming group.

Chelsea's talented team makes this season's troubles even more difficult to understand.

Since the ownership group led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital acquired the team from Roman Abramovich last summer, a lot has been said about the club's transfer market expenditures. Mykhailo Mudryk, Raheem Sterling, and other high-profile signings have struggled to establish themselves at Stamford Bridge, and Joao Felix, who joined on loan from Atletico Madrid in January, has also failed to make an impression.

But as Frank Lampard prepares to step down at the end of the season, Mauricio Pochettino will probably look to the club's more seasoned players to make waves. The CIES Football Observatory claims that Chelsea's veteran players are the most valuable to the team overall.

The club's entire roster is valued at almost $1 billion (£793 million) by the CIES, with Kai Havertz, Enzo Fernandez, Reece James, and Mason Mount being worth about $88 million (£69.8 million) each. Benoit Badiashile, Christian Pulisic, and Trevoh are valued at $51.5 million, while Raheem Sterling and Joao Felix are worth $65.5 million.

The transfer values of Chalobah, Conor Gallagher, Mateo Kovacic, Wesley Fofana, and Mudryk range from $44 million to $33 million (£34.9 million to £26.2 million).

Top talent on loan is not counted, even though loan players are; for Chelsea, this includes Romelu Lukaku, who was acquired for a then-club record sum of almost $100 million (£79.3 million). Boehly and Clearlake spent a lot of money on Chelsea—$5.4 billion (£4.25 billion) to be exact—but they also received a valuable playing squad worth a great deal before the summer and January additions, access to endless Premier League revenues, and the chance to increase the club's commercial revenues.

Pochettino will now take over a team that is failing while being worth over $1 billion (£793 million). If the former Tottenham Hotspur manager is hired by Chelsea, keeping a large group happy, healthy, and motivated would be his biggest problem.

Fortunately, summer is right around the way, so you can do that.
