Early goals from Edin Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan propelled Simone Inzaghi's team closer to the Champions League final.
Despite an amazing 2-0 first-leg victory over AC Milan in the semifinals, Simone Inzaghi felt Inter Milan still had work to do to go to the Champions League final.
Edin Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored both goals for Inter in the opening 11 minutes to thrash their local rivals, and they easily could have ended the match during their commanding first-half performance.
After a lackluster performance in front of their supporters in the "home" leg of the match, Milan improved after the break but will be happy to still be within striking distance of the 2010 champions.
"We could have done more than the two goals, but a great match," Inzaghi said in an interview with Amazon Prime Video.We've already gone through a few rounds and are aware of our advantage.
"There will now be a second leg, we will have our supporters with us, and obviously we know that we will still have to put up a great deal of effort to realize a dream.
"I prayed for it yesterday with all of my heart.Every square inch of the field was covered, and those who arrived aided us.
"That's how shows like this are put together.Although it is now appropriate to rejoice, we are aware that something is still missing.
Prior to Tuesday's second leg, goal scorer Dzeko urged his teammates to maintain their intensity.
Dzeko told BT Sport, "Obviously, we know we had a nice result, but let's say even though the next game is technically an away game, it is actually a home game for them just with our fans.
"They are a good team, so we have to be careful, but if we play like we did today, we're on the right track."
Stefano Piolo, the manager of Milan, was unhappy with the way his squad was playing.
