We are confident that thetemporary challenges will be resolved for the May 13 primaries to take place - NDC 


The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) says they are confident that theMay 13, 2023 presidency and legislature will go aheaddespite the court order filed by the hopeful flag bearer.

In a statement dated Wednesday, May 10, 2023, the secretary general of the party, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, assured NDCmembers that the party is doing everything to resolve the situation to pave the way for the election on Saturday. “TheNational Democratic Congress (NDC), following the constitution of one of the presidential candidates, wantsto reassure the presidential candidates, parliamentarians and members, supporters and those who - support it, that the party is doing all the right and legal steps. The President andthe Legislature on Saturday, May 13, 2023. 

"We
 want to encourage members of the party and Ghanaians to remain calm as the party, through its legal teamworks to resolve the temporary challenges," the statement said. Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, who ishopeful on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, wants the Communications Act to stopthe NDC from going ahead with the scheduled election due tosome problems. 

In his brief, the hopeful flag bearer referred to the difficulties in obtaining the list of delegates to be used for the election and some discrepancies in the roll. But the statement signed by the general secretary of the party assuring themembers to remain calm in the current situation shows that the party leaders have acted within the law. 

“While we encourage peaceamong us, we want to assure you that by April 20, 2023, the party has presented to all presidential candidates a complete list of delegates in line with the pledge It is stated in our instructions that this first document will be given to all candidates for the position of president. "The party is confident that this temporary challenge will be quickly overcome to pave the way for holding the primaries on schedule," the statement added. 

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has told the NDC that they will not be able to look into the upcoming elections until the legal issues are resolved. According to EC President Jean Mensa, the Commission's decision to withdraw from the election wasto prevent the EC from being brought to court for contempt.
