Despite the requests of Red Dragons co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Gareth Bale will not be coming out of retirement to join the Hollywood revolution at Wrexham.
With Reynolds and McElhenney finalizing their takeover in 2020 and placing the illustrious Welsh football club squarely in the spotlight, Wrexham's path has recently gained international attention. They made significant investments, and most recently, the team's National League championship helped them rejoin the EFL for the first time in 15 years.
In the last parts of the season, the team succeeded in luring Ben Foster out of retirement, and there are already ambitious preparations for the upcoming League Two season in 2023–24.
The long-running cult television series It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star McElhenney originally wooed Bale on Twitter: Gareth Bale, let's go golfing so I won't have to spend four hours trying to talk you into coming out of retirement for one final magical season.
Later, Bale made fun of himself by saying, "I think I was looking more for a free round of golf off Rob."
Later, the Wrexham couple insisted it was not a joke, with McElhenney telling Welsh station S4C: "I think there is seriousness from our side, but I'm not sure there is seriousness from his. I believe he is content.
When he stated, "I like that we can kind of do some stuff that's a little outside the box of convention when it comes to goofing around," Reynolds seemed to be expressing hope. Ben Foster showed up when I didn't expect him to.
During an interview on The Aarthi and Ssiram Show earlier last week, McElhenney urged Bale to give it "one last year," demonstrating his seeming inability to accept no for an answer.
Jonathan Barnett, Bale's longtime agent, has now dispelled any notion that the 33-year-old former Real Madrid star wants to play football again in an interview with Sky Sports.
