NDC primaries: Court agrees to hear rehabilitation case May 12 - Amaliba
National Democratic Congress(NDC) Legal Affairs Director Abraham Amaliba has announced that the court has agreed to hear the impeachment proceedingsagainst the party's leadership on the first day.
One of the presidential candidates is Dr Kwabena Duffuor, who is seeking to cancel the May 13 election due to the improper procedure brought about by the constitution. In an interview with Joy FM on May 10, 2023, Amaliba revealed that they requested Thursday, May 11, 2023 for a court hearing; However, they could not reach an agreement with the clerk ofcourt on Friday, May 12, 2023 to be given as the date of the trial.
"We really wanted Thursday, but the records told us that it is difficult because of some issues that the digitization of the system should be done. Thejudge who will preside must have knowledge of the process, so the time has been set for Friday,” myjoyonline.com said.
Amaliba stressed that the NDC is determined to pursue the rejection of this law because it may affect the party, due to the huge amount invested in thepreparation for the election that will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023. "The party invested a lot of money in this matter. Don't forget that the representatives have started moving to their offices. Dr. Kwabena Duffour appealedthe order to prevent the NDC from holding its primaries, citing inaccuracies in the voters' roll and other issues.
The union plans to challengethe legality of the law, pointing to the negative consequences it could have on their jobs and the huge financial costs involved. Inthe meantime, the ElectionCommission (EC) has refrainedfrom looking into the primaries until all legal issues are resolved.
According to the chairman of the EC, their decision to block the committee is said to becontempt.
