Even if Liverpool could only sign Aurelien Tchouameni on loan from Real Madrid, sources have told 90min that Liverpool would be interested in doing so.
The midfielder has long been coveted by the Reds, and they spent a significant portion of the 2021–2022 campaign attempting to lure him away from Ligue 1 club Monaco. Chelsea had also made a lot of effort to get his signature prior to the UK government imposing sanctions.
Tchouameni left the microstate after a standout two-year spell and ultimately chose to sign with European champions Real Madrid, who defeated Liverpool in the Champions League final the previous year, for a transfer fee that could eventually top €100 million.
This season, Liverpool's desire to retool has become even more obvious, and 90min is aware that they are still enormous supporters of Tchouameni.
Liverpool has let Real Madrid know that, should the 23-year-old become available, they would be happy to take him off their hands. This summer, Jude Bellingham is anticipated to join Toni Kroos and Luka Modric at the Santiago Bernabeu, and there will be heated rivalry for midfield positions as both players are likely to sign new contracts.
Tchouameni's first season in Spain has been consistent but unremarkable; he hasn't always been called upon in pivotal matches; most recently, he was left off the starting lineup for the opening leg of his team's Champions League semi-final against Manchester City.
The France international, however, has not shown any indications of displeasure, and Carlo Ancelotti and the Real Madrid hierarchy do not want to let him depart. Liverpool would be interested in signing Tchouameni on a loan, even if he cannot be transferred permanently.
Mason Mount, James Maddison, Florian Neuhaus, Ryan Gravenberch, and Alexis Mac Allister are some other midfielders who Liverpool are keeping an eye on. Before withdrawing from the competition to sign him in April, Bellingham had been their primary target.
