Children at the Orthopaedic Training Centre (OTC) in Adoagyiri, Nsawam, in the Eastern Region have received medical equipment, assistive gadgets, and consumables from GTS Drilling Ghana and two other organizations.

In order to support the cause of children with disabilities, GTS Drilling Ghana, in collaboration with Rotary Club International and the Wheelchair for Kids (WFK) of Australia, donated 22 different goods totaling more than $31,000 (about GH370,000) to the institution.

Samira Bawumia, the vice president's wife, and Berenice Owen-Jones, the Australian High Commissioner to Ghana, joined the givers in presenting the gifts.

Mrs. Bawumia and Ms. Owen-Jones engaged in interactions with the kids after their presentations to inspire and motivate them.

The products comprised hospital beds, mattresses, 30 pairs of crutches, transfer trolleys, 24 children's wheelchairs, 24 dual workstations, and 48 chairs.

Office furniture such as seats and desks, exam couches, office supplies, cartons of surgical masks, gowns, and scrubs, gloves, orthotics, and other consumables are among the others.

In a brief speech, Mrs. Bawumia emphasized the need to come up with fresh ideas for helping disabled people.

She emphasized the necessity for cooperation in order to create an egalitarian society because a substantial section of the world's population experienced various types of impairment.

According to Mrs. Bawumia, "about 16% of the world's population experiences disability, and new strategies to support disabled people are needed." She thanked the donors for their kind gift, which would undoubtedly help the facility and the recipients' kids.

She expressed gratitude to Rotary International, Wheelchair for Kids, the Australian High Commission in Ghana, and GTS Drilling for their arduous efforts in making this event possible.

Assistance for PWDs

The importance of assisting people with disabilities (PWDs) in realizing their full potential was highlighted by Ms. Owen-Jones.

"We acknowledge that individuals with disabilities may significantly contribute to progress when provided with enabling systems, support, and enhanced services."

"This is why we are so happy to be able to sponsor this effort, which strives to enhance the lives of disabled individuals and service delivery," she added.

The High Commissioner said, "I want to thank Dave Harper and his colleagues at GTS Drilling for their enormous work in making this presentation possible and for their dedication to aiding the needy."

Iddi Baah-Kurey, the human resources manager for GTS Drilling, noted that since the company's establishment in Ghana, it has provided various types of help to the community.

He acknowledged his company's appreciation for having assisted with the shipping of wheelchairs and orthopaedic medical supplies from Australia.
