After Wrexham secured promotion back to League Two, there had been speculation that Gareth Bale could come out of retirement to play for the Welsh club.
That has now been shut down by the player's agent Jonathan Barnett, but not before the 33-year-old fuelled the rumours on social media. The former Real Madrid man interacted on Twitter with Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney, who is in charge at the club alongside Ryan Reynolds.
"Hey, Gareth Bale, let's play golf, where I totally won't spend four hours trying to convince you to un-retire for one last magical season," was McElhenney's first approach to the Welshman.
Bale then replied "depends what course", and tagged The R&A golf course in St Andrews.

"I don't think so," was how Barnett responded to Sky Sports News when asked about the possibility.
"He's flattered by the offers, but they've all been tongue-in-cheek.
"He's having a great life at the moment and it's well deserved, as he's been the best British footballer, probably ever.
"[The Wrexham owners] haven't actually spoken to me. They may have spoken to Gareth, but Gareth doesn't want to play football any more"He's had a great career and he enjoyed himself, but he's living a great life now.
"He's with his family, which is the most important thing. He's spending a lot of time with his children and that's what he wants to do.
