Lee Johnson is certain that Hibernian will profit from spending a "considerable investment" to secure the services of Elie Youan on a long-term contract that runs through the summer of 2026.
The Easter Road club said on Thursday that they had used an option-to-buy clause to acquire the 24-year-old French forward from Swiss club St Gallen after he performed admirably during his season-long loan with the Edinburgh team.
Manager Johnson revealed the Hibees have paid a fee of “not quite seven figures, but very high sixes” for Youan – who has seven goals and seven assists this term – and he believes it will prove money well spent.
The team has made a purchase of a promising asset, he stated. "Credit to the ownership for the investment they have put in. It is a significant investment for a club like Hibs, and one that we feel is good for us, not just in terms of the field, but also in terms of future value."Elie has drastically improved this season. He made a difference in a competitive league. He out-stretches opponents and has strong goal and assist totals. He is maturing. He has relocated to a foreign nation and culture, and if his trajectory continues, he should have an even better season the following year.
He is not the finished product, and we are still working on him. He has a ton of work to do. I believe Hibs is a fantastic platform for Elie, and this is merely an extension of his work.
After announcing on Tuesday that Lewis Stevenson, 35, who has spent his whole career with them, has signed a contract to stay with the Hibees for the upcoming season, the hiring of Youan was the second significant business arrangement that Hibs finalized this week. Johnson believes the seasoned veteran still has room to grow.
The manager remarked that Lewis' loyalty to the team, his character, and his skill on the field were crucial. "With him, you know exactly what you are getting; he is completely trustworthy.
