Neenyi Ghartey VII, the Omanhen of the Effutu Traditional Area in the Central Region, has been appointed the University of Education Winneba's (UEW) new chancellor.
Neenyi Ghartey succeeds Alhaji Asuma Banda, who was appointed in 2010 and left office in 2015. Neenyi Ghartey is now the second chancellor.
Neenyi Ghartey was robed as chancellor by the chairman of the university's governing council, Nana Ofori Ansah; the vice chancellor, Prof. Mawutor Avoke; and assisted by the president at an impressive investiture ceremony infused with academic veneration and culture. The ceremony was graced by the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The position of chancellor was thereafter given to him.

When they delivered the robes, the university's Creative Arts Department electrified the crowd and received applause. in a "deer" in a creative recreation of the renowned deer hunt festival of the people of Winneba for the chancellor.
In his remarks, President Nana Akufo Addo expressed his confidence that Neenyi Ghartey, a distinguished traditional leader, would make every effort to ensure that UEW remained true to its core mission of producing professional educators to lead a new national vision of education intended to refocus Ghana's efforts in the direction of rapid economic and social development.
He expressed confidence that the institution, which he considered to be among the best in Ghana, would continue to produce graduates who were ready to seize opportunities and possibilities for higher achievement through innovation and creativity in today's science, technology, and knowledge-driven economy and promote prosperity for all.
President Akufo-Addo noted that Neenyi Ghartey will succeed Alhaji Asuma Banda, one of Ghana's remarkable sons. Banda's unselfish commitment to the institution helped it win awards as the third-best in the nation in 2016 and the most sustainable university the previous year.

He said he was hoping that Neenyi Ghartey, a strong supporter of academic freedom, would use his wealth of expertise to facilitate a smooth transition and further advance the institution to greater heights, indicating that the university could not have chosen a deserving successor.
Regarding youth and development, he stated that his guiding idea was that leaders had a duty to raise a generation that realized the aspirations of the great patriots of the past.
The nation's young were exhorted to work towards embracing the grandeur that beckoned—a generation that would live a new Ghanaian civilization equal to any on earth and who would bring to bear the entire meaning of freedom and justice.
He also reaffirmed that the government was committed to continuing to assist UEW and all other colleges around the nation.
For his part, Neenyi Ghartey thanked the president, the governing council, and the administration of the university for their faith in him and vowed to carry out the position to the best of his abilities.

He claimed that amid severe competition between educational institutions and worldwide limits, there are difficult times.
