OFFICIAL: Marco Reus has extended his Borussia Dortmund contract through 2024.

Borussia Dortmund and its captain are making a crucial statement throughout the final stretch of the campaign: The contract of Dortmund-born Marco Reus (33), who joined BVB's youth team for the first time when he was six years old in the middle of the 1990s, has been extended by one more year till the end of the 2023–24 season. This summer, when he will begin his twelfth professional season in the Black and Yellow jersey, he will still be 16 goals short of club legend Adi Preißler's record.

The BVB board chairman, Hans-Joachim Watzke, praised Reus as a "deserving player of our club" and expressed his personal wishes for "the greatest possible success in the late stage of his career."

Although Marco has had a lot of bad luck with injuries, he is a true Borussian and, in his role as team captain, seeks the same objectives as the rest of us: He is and will always be as ambitious as possible to lead our BVB to truly enormous goals.

Sebastian Kehl, the BVB's sporting director, had the following to say about the new agreement: "I am very delighted that Marco will continue his exceptional tale at BVB for another year with this signature. We never allowed ourselves to become sidetracked by daily conversations and always carried out our collaborative discussions in a pleasant, trustworthy, and focused manner. With our supporters on the "SĂĽd," in this city, as well as outside the borders of Dortmund and BVB fans all over the world, Marco has immense value for this club as a player and role model. He will not only contribute as a seasoned BVB worker and former player for Dortmund, but

continue to actively participate in our team's on-field victories, but he will also use all of his knowledge to help our young squad members flourish.
Regarding the extension of his contract, Marco Reus stated: "Right now, we as a club, just like all of our fans, have a major objective in sight, on which everyone is focused: We want to become German champions, and we need every single Borussia player to do it. Beyond that, however, I still have a strong urge to offer the club, where I have already devoted more than half my life, my all. For me, there is still nothing better than scoring goals in front of the best supporters in the world, playing in the most stunning stadium, and sharing in our triumphs. I've always maintained I wouldn't do that, so I'm thrilled that my contract has been extended for another year.
