The introduction of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) a few seasons ago was intended to help referees make accurate decisions in matches.

While this can cause a loss of momentum in some cases, it has helped in some situations.

However, when VAR makes the wrong decision, it can create a chaotic scenario, as we saw with Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid on May 9.

Ancelotti, who is rarely flustered, was dismayed by the incident.

He is the epitome of calm and sobriety on the touchline but against Manchester City he was absolutely certain his team was robbed. KDB target doesn't matter

Kevin De Bruyne just scored a thunderous goal to equalize the arguments. There was nothing wrong with the Belgian's shot, seconds earlier Bernardo Silva had won the ball back from the touchline for a throw-in, but the refs hadn't noticed it.

VAR did not review the incident and Ancelotti was so angry that he received a ticket. One can only imagine if this turns out to be the goal that knocks out Real Madrid next week.

As history shows, there have been more outrageous decisions in the Champions League in the past; Goals and decisions are not meant. Let's take a look at some of these controversies.

1. RVP received a red card at Camp Nou

Yes, that is a stricter reservation. This match was marked by Jack Wilshere's masterpiece, helping Arsenal to take a 2-1 lead in the second leg.

Robin Van Persie scored but missed, only to turn around to see the offside flag raised. The center referee assumed that the Dutchman had returned the ball after hearing the whistle and he was shown a second yellow card. Arsenal continued to lose with a score of 4-3.

2. Luiz Adriano in Shakhtar

The Brazilian forward enjoyed a glittering nine-year stint in Ukraine, but it was marred by a few questionable moments. The most important match was the group stage match against Nordsjælland in 2012.

Adriano scored a hat-trick in that game, but his first goal drew many reactions. Willian, then at Shakhtar, returned the ball to an opponent after an injury.

To everyone's surprise, Adriano chased the ball, passed the keeper and scored. The referee allowed him to stay.

Like the others, the Nordsjælland goalkeeper expected the ball to return to him so he could continue playing, but the opposition had a different opinion.

3. Cristiano Ronaldo in the match against Bayern Munich

As Thomas Muller will tell you, Cristiano Ronaldo has always been the antidote to Bayern Munich's Champions League. Only in 2017 did the Bavarians feel regret after scoring two goals from offside.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner put the ball past Manuel Neuer in extra time while in an offside position. A few minutes later, the same thing happened when Marcelo passed the ball to him while he was standing in front of the ball, which is technically not allowed. Both goals are upheld.

Although VAR wasn't introduced at the time, it made no less outrageous decisions.

For Ancelotti's teachers and students, they can only hope that De Bruyne's goal will not make a difference in this draw - because such defeats are painful.
