However, the two sides could only draw 1-1 during the thrilling match, leaving much to be decided in the second leg at Etihad Stadium.
The first leg showcased the quality audiences have come to expect from two of Europe's greatest players, and much of the hype focused on this match as a 'real' Championship final. The British dominated the first exchanges, but it was Vincius who opened the scoring with a spectacular goal.
