Superstar Matildas player Sam Kerr admitted she nearly declined the chance to represent Australia at King Charles' coronation because she was concerned it would conflict with her Chelsea obligations.
Kerr, 29, added that being chosen by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to carry the Australian flag was a "amazing honour."
Amazingly, she scored for the Blues against Everton less than 24 hours after witnessing the King's coronation.
In an international camp around a month ago, I was given the chance to be a part of it,' Kerr said in the lead-up to Chelsea's match against Arsenal in the FA Cup final.
'At first, I thought it was impossible because the Everton game was on the same day, but Emma [Chelsea manager] and the club were gracious enough to allow me go,' said the fan.
According to Kerr, "something I'll probably tell my kids about in 10 to 15 years" is becoming the flag bearer at such a major international event.
It happens as the Matildas skipper gets ready to represent Australia and New Zealand as the hosts of the women's World Cup beginning on July 20.
Prior to representing her country, she will be competing for more hardware with Chelsea as they compete for the FA Cup versus Manchester United and the Women's Super League championship.
This Sunday at Wembley is the FA Cup final, and the Australian is eager to take the pitch in front of the sold-out 90,000 spectators.
