Brigadier General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah, a former Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, has warned that Ghana is on the verge of collapse because the populace's rage may lead to a coup, even if it is not the wisest course of action.
The retired military commander claims that individuals are compelled to arrange coups out of resentment towards the system since no one ever plans a coup until something forces them to.
He bemoaned the situation of the economy and claimed that because the two main dominating political parties, the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress, are the same, the youth must rise up.
He emphasized that coups devastate nations, but Ghana is progressively making progress when speaking to Korku Lumor on the Class Morning Show on Class91.3FM on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.
He explained coups' causes by saying, "We don't walk down that path [coups] with our eyes wide open. People like Rawlings were propelled to choose that course by external forces. Someone will act irrationally, and you won't be able to contain your wrath because you can't stand what's occurring right now.
"I don't want a coup at all; Ghana will be over when we get there, and we won't be coming back. Look at Iraq and Libya; they will never recover; they have served their purpose.
Sudan is done and moving in that direction. I do not want Ghana to move in that direction, but if we don't exercise caution, we will. We are not heading there voluntarily, but resentment will force us to go there, he said.
The elderly man fiercely proclaimed, "NPP and NDC are all the same."
He voiced his disappointment by saying, "Rawlings thought he could change Ghana before he died, but he couldn't, and it's a horrible pain and I don't know why," before posing the hypothetical question, "Do you have to kill people or murder people before they listen to you?"
After claiming to have lived in the UK, Russia, Canada, Ukraine, and Russia, Brigadier General Nunoo-Mensah questioned why young people would wait in line at the American Embassy for visas when Ghana was so close by.
"Ghana is a lovely country, but let's build it..."The young must stand up, and all of our politicians should be ashamed of themselves, he said.
