In the Premier League, there have been numerous players who have made an instant impact in their debut seasons. Here are some of the players who shined in their first season in the league:

10. Michu | Swansea City | 2012/13

Michu, a relatively unknown player, made his way into the Premier League and had a remarkable debut season with Swansea City. The Spanish forward signed for £2 million and scored two goals in his debut match against Queens Park Rangers.

By Christmas, he had scored 13 goals, including two against Arsenal. He helped Swansea win the League Cup by scoring in the final, and he ended his debut season with 18 goals.

9. Roque Santa Cruz, Blackburn Rovers, 2007/08

Blackburn Rovers signed Paraguay striker Roque Santa Cruz from Bayern Munich. He scored on his debut against Middlesbrough and became a specialist in scoring from within the six-yard box, netting 19 goals in his debut season and helping Blackburn finish seventh.

8. Jurgen Klinsmann, Tottenham, 1994/95

Klinsmann was the first foreign star to join the Premier League and was a huge signing for Tottenham Hotspur. He scored on his debut against Sheffield Wednesday and scored an acrobatic volley on his home debut against Everton. He finished his debut season with 21 goals.

7. Fernando Torres | Liverpool | 2007/08 Liverpool signed Fernando Torres after a long search for a proper striker. Torres quickly proved himself by scoring 20 goals in his debut season, becoming the first Liverpool player since Robbie Fowler to do so. He also became the first player to score in eight consecutive games at Anfield since Roger Hunt in 1962.

6. Diego Costa, Chelsea, 2014/15

Diego Costa, who led Atletico Madrid to their first La Liga title in 18 years, signed for Chelsea and was an enigmatic figure. He scored seven goals in his first four matches, feeding on passes from Cesc Fabregas, but was later charged with violent conduct by the FA. Despite this, he still managed to end his debut season with 20 goals and help Chelsea win the Premier League.

5. Ruud van Nistelrooy, Manchester United, 2001/02

Ruud van Nistelrooy made an impressive start to his Premier League career with Manchester United in the 2001–02 season. After suffering a serious knee injury the previous year while training with PSV Eindhoven, he made a comeback with a brace in his debut match against Fulham. Van Nistelrooy went on to create history by scoring in ten consecutive matches, a feat that stood for 13 years until Jamie Vardy broke it.

He finished the season with an impressive tally of 23 goals, narrowly missing out on the Golden Boot to Thierry Henry. The Dutch striker's predatory instincts were on full display, as he went on to score 20 or more goals in four of his five seasons with Manchester United.

4. Andy Cole, Newcastle, 1993/94

Andy Cole had a dream debut season in the Premier League with Newcastle United in 1993–94. The 21-year-old striker had joined the club late in the previous season, helping them win promotion to the top flight. In his first full season, he was unstoppable, scoring 34 goals to become the top scorer and leading his team to a third-place finish.

3. Sergio Aguero, Manchester City, 2011/12

Sergio Aguero arrived at Manchester City for a club-record fee of £35 million in 2011, as the club looked for a proven goalscorer to take them to the next level. The Argentine striker did not disappoint, scoring on his debut against Swansea City and setting up a goal for David Silva. He then scored a long-range screamer to complete a perfect start to his Premier League career.

Although his form dipped mid-season, he came back strongly to score crucial goals in the final six games, helping City win the title by edging out Manchester United. He capped off a memorable debut season by scoring the winner in the final minutes of the last game against QPR to secure the Premier League title.

2. Mohamed Salah | Liverpool | 2017/18

Mohamed Salah had a point to prove when he returned to the Premier League with Liverpool in the 2017-18 season after an unsuccessful stint with Chelsea. He hit the ground running, scoring on his debut against Watford and setting the tone for the rest of the season. He scored seven goals in November and four against Watford in a single game.

Salah was instrumental in Liverpool's run to the Champions League final, scoring a number of crucial goals, including a brace against his former club, Roma. He finished the season with an incredible 32 goals in a 38-game season, breaking the record previously held by Alan Shearer, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Luis Suarez.

1. Erling Haaland | Manchester City | 2022/23

Erling Haaland announced his arrival in the Premier League with a bang, scoring twice in his league debut for Manchester City against West Ham in the 2022–23 season. Despite doubts about his ability to replicate his goal-scoring form in the toughest league in the world, he quickly silenced his critics with consecutive hat-tricks against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest. He continued his scoring spree with more hat-tricks against Manchester United and Wolves, breaking records left, right, and center.

He shattered Salah's record of 32 goals in a 38-game season and went on to break the all-time record of 34 goals in a single season, previously held jointly by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole, against West Ham. The Norwegian striker's blistering start to his Premier League career has made him one of the most exciting prospects in world football.
