When "Wagye M'enkwa," a smash hit song from 2009, was released, her career had just reached a new peak. The religious song generated a lot of discussion, and fans predicted further success for Ewura Abena.

But circumstances interfered. The performer said that she was experiencing despair and suicidal thoughts as a result of various financial and familial troubles. Her two next albums didn't garner as much praise.

The worst aspect of this impact on her mental health, however, was her inability to talk about her issues with anyone.

The 'This Far' singer claimed on JoyNews that a professional recommended she talk to her mom as a bulwark against despair.

She said that strategy was assisting her in moving forward, but another abrupt event occurred: Ewura Abena's mother passed away, leaving her on her own.

Fair enough, she said, "there was a period when I needed someone to tell me, 'You are lovely,' 'You can sing,' and "You have a good voice." I wanted my mother to remind me.

The musician recalled how, at one of those times, she had made the decision to find happiness by sharing a passable selfie on Facebook.

But all of her efforts to find some good in that day were foiled by a comment from another social media user.

"So I posted a picture, and someone entered and wrote, 'So you've stopped the music, and now you're doing slay.'"

"So I uploaded a picture, and someone wrote, 'So you've stopped the music and now you're doing slay queen?'" She stated on the AM Show, "It was a beautiful photo, a decent picture.

She expressed to the presenter how this response affected her, saying, "That simple sentence devastated me. I worked very hard to grin at that particular moment.

She bemoaned the degree of negativity being spread on social media and how it tends to make people more anxious.

"When it comes to depression and anxiety, you just manage it; it doesn't go away," she continued.

She recommended that those who were depressed get counseling and attempt to surround themselves with positive people.

At the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, Ewura Abena received nominations in the categories of Best New Artiste and Songwriter of the Year.

She expressed how much these accolades meant to her and how they gave her a much-needed sense of accomplishment.
