This weekend will mark the debut of the father-son punditry combo on Match of the Day when former Premier League player Shaun Wright Phillips joins Ian Wright on Saturday's episode of the popular football programme.

Wright, a former player for Arsenal who has long served as a regular pundit on Match of the Day, will analyse and discuss Saturday's highlights in the studio with host Gary Lineker and his son.

This weekend, Match of the Day will stop at 10pm on BBC Two to make room for a four-hour broadcast of the Eurovision Song Contest on BBC One from 8pm to midnight.

On Saturday night, when Leeds plays Newcastle, Aston Villa hosts Tottenham, Fulham travels to Southampton, Manchester United plays Wolves, and Chelsea plays Nottingham Forest, the father-son team will be entrusted with dissecting six pivotal games.

Prior to stints with Chelsea, Queens Park Rangers, New York Red Bulls, and Phoenix Rising, Wright-Phillips began his playing career at Manchester City. Between 2008 and 2011, he returned to City after his time at Stamford Bridge.

The former winger has appeared as a pundit for outlets including BT Sport, the Premier League, and Sky Sports since his retirement, but Saturday will be his first appearance on the nation's premier football programme.

After Arsenal's heartbreaking 4-1 loss to the defending champions at the Etihad last month, the ex-Manchester City player made a humorous jab at his father.

Hello @IanWright0, how are you? Tweets from Wright-Phillips. Just dropping by... I hope everything is okay with you, dad.

Just in case Wright himself hadn't seen it, Lineker could not help but broadcast the message during Match of the Day live on air.

"He's so irritating!" Wright retaliated. He still cannot reach the toilet, despite my teaching him how to wee this boy!

Lineker responded, 'He's certainly taking the wee now,' as co-pundit Alan Shearer screamed inconsolably next to him.

Despite the fact that both Arsenal and Manchester City have games on Sunday, Wright-Phillips will probably be prepared with more jabs and ripostes this weekend.

At Goodison Park, the league's top team faces relegation-threatened Everton, while Brighton visits Arsenal at the Emirates.
