National Democratic Congress (NDC) Amasaman Constituency ExecutiveThomas Okine has expressed confidence that the party's House of Assembly candidate will defeat Akwasi Owusu Afrifa-Mensa MP in the 2024 general elections.
Akwasi Owusu Afrifa-Mensa of the New Patriotic Partydefeated Sedem Kweku Afenyo of the NDC to win the seat in 2020. Amasaman has been an NDC stronghold since its formation in 1992, formerlyknown as Ga South Constituency.
In 2004, the region was divided into three regions, namely Weija, Dome and Amasaman. The NDC maintained itsdominance in the constituency until the 2020 general electionwhen they defeated Akwasi Owusu Afrifa-Mensa of the NPP.
With nine MPs seeking to represent the House of Representatives in the 2024 elections, Thomas Okine expressed his strong belief that the NDC will regain the seat. Heconfidently said, “It is written that the NDC will win the seat in 2024. Whoever gets the nomination will do the work of the parliament. Interview anNPP MP and find out what he has achieved in the area."
According to Okine, the NPP-led government has plunged the country into various crises which it cannot overcomedespite its might.
He says, “Ghana has faced many problems under the leadershipof the NPP, with ineffective presidents and representatives. I will not talk about MPs, but if you interview NPP supporters, they will know that their MPs are not in the system. "
The NDC will hold its first election on May 13, 2023, involving more than 200 constituencies. The mainopposition party is preparingfor a strong campaign as it seeks to regain power in 2024.
