I'm not caught - Ex-Asante Kotoko Goalkeeper Banahene plows the grass.

Former Ghana and Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Maxwell Owusu Banahene has said he is not the one arrested for cheating.

He revealed that someone is pretending to be him and using his name to deceive people by promising to help them get visas to travel abroad. Banahene told Peace FM that he became aware of this impostor about eight years ago but never met him personally.

He said that he is not the only Owusu Banahene and thatothers may be making him feel that way. "What will say that I was called is because of the name, I am not the only one who is Owusu Banahene and secondly, there are times when people can make me imitate him, because of this, I am arrested that person. "Therehave been many cases in the last 8 years where people have been arrested and then released. I have never met the person in question before, I don't know if the person who is there now is the same person or someone else," Owusu said.Banahene told Peace FM. Banahene has expressed his frustration at the backlash from those who mistake him for a fraudster.

He told the story of when he invited his accusers to meet him personally, only to have them not recognize him among his group. He said: “There was a time when I was with Berekum Chelsea, someone called me and told me the same story that I came to Yeji to defraud people after I said that I would help travel. I let the person meet me personally with the other players, and he couldn't recognize me because it wasn't me. I often explain to people that I am not.

"Sometimes I will
go out of my way to show a picture of mewith Michael Essien's players in 1997 to prove my innocence. I will go to Yeji to prove my innocence and I am not. I wasadvised to report the matter to the police because one day someone might attack me,” he added. Banahene played football as Hasaacas and Asante Kotoko. He was part of theBlack Starlets Ghana team that won the CAF U-17 AFCON in 1999 and won the bronze medal at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in the same year. Additionally, he won a silver medal with the Black Satellites team at the FIFAU-20 World Cup in 2001.
