Erik ten Hag gave Manchester United the green light to sign Amadou Onana from Everton

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has approved the club's pursuit of Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.

Ahead of the summer transfer window, the midfielder is a priority for the United boss, who is keen to bolster his options.

According to Football Insider, Ten Hag has identified Onana as a real target and the Dutchman has accepted a possible deal.

Ten Hag admires Onana's strength and physical ability and believes the Belgian will complement the technical abilities of Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen.

Everton paid Lille £33m for the 21-year-old. The Toffees have had a bad season but Onana is one of the club's best players.

According to the report, "Manchester United are monitoring Everton star Amadou Onana ahead of a possible move this summer, sources have told Football Insider."

"Onana fits the profile that Ten Hag is looking for, and he has given the United board the green light to agree a deal for the Belgium international."

"Onana is tied to Goodison Park until 2027 after signing a five-year contract when he joins the club, but is ready to push for a move this summer - especially if Everton are relegated to the Championship. "

This season, Onana has made 30 Premier League appearances for Everton.

He has scored one goal and provided two assists.

Before any defensive midfielder, Onana will be an effective assistant for Casemiro.
