Chelsea's season may be over with nothing left to fight for
Frank Lampard, the interim manager of Chelsea, has warned his team to be wary of Nottingham Forest, who are still fighting to avoid relegation. Although Chelsea's season may be over, Lampard insists that his team should show respect to Forest, who are currently 16th in the Championship table, three points clear of the relegation zone.
Chelsea won their first game in nine matches last weekend when they defeated Bournemouth, but Lampard says that his team cannot afford to become complacent. Lampard commented, "Another game comes in the Premier League against a team fighting for their lives. It's a big test, we have to give them (Forest) complete respect. They have an effective way of playing. They are very threatening in terms of set pieces and fighting for everything."
However, Chelsea will be without the services of Ben Chilwell, who injured his hamstring, joining Reece James and Mason Mount in potentially sitting out the rest of the season. Lampard expressed his sympathy for Chilwell's injury and said, "We miss big players. Reece, Mason, and Ben are big internationals."
A victory for Chelsea in this match would benefit Everton in their battle to avoid relegation. Everton is currently one point behind Nottingham Forest. Chelsea could also have a say in the Premier League title race when they face league leaders Manchester City later this month. However, Lampard says that his team's focus is solely on their own performance, rather than the consequences for any other team. He said, "We play for pride in every game no matter what the consequences for anybody else. It's our consequences that we are concerned about."
Nottingham Forest has been in and out of the relegation zone in recent weeks, but two wins in their last three games have given them a boost in the home stretch. With only a few games remaining in the season, every point counts for Forest in their fight to avoid relegation. Lampard acknowledges this and says that his team must be fully prepared to face a team that is fighting for their survival.
In conclusion, Lampard has cautioned his team to be respectful of Nottingham Forest and their fight for survival. Although Chelsea has nothing left to play for this season, Lampard wants his team to approach this game with the same intensity and focus as any other. As Chelsea prepares to face Nottingham Forest, Lampard's message to his team is clear: they must give their opponents the respect they deserve, and be fully focused on their own performance.
