Former Ghanaian President John Agyekum Kufuor, according to the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, put his passion for Ghana before his health throughout his eight years in office.

Speaking at a dinner in Ransford, England, Otumfuo accused former president Kufuor of failing to prioritize his health after surviving an accident on his way to the Castle, which served as the seat of government at the time, and of failing to seek appropriate medical care for himself.

Speaking at a dinner in Ransford, England, Otumfuo accused former president Kufuor of failing to prioritize his health after surviving an accident on his way to the Castle, which served as the seat of government at the time, and of failing to seek appropriate medical care for himself.

"I told him that it was his own responsibility that he is unable to walk. On his way to the Castle, he got in an accident, but he was unharmed; he went to the 37 Military Hospital and then went back to the Presidency to work. I phoned him from Kumasi, and he answered that he was at the office, to which I replied, "Ofa, what are you doing there?" When I told him Ofa you better, he said, "I'm okay, nothing happened, I'm fine."

And I advised him to relax at home, Ofa. And I assured him that even after his death, Ghana would remain. However, he didn't leave the workplace until 4 o'clock. This was the extent of his sacrifice on behalf of Ghana, Otumfuo said.

When a private automobile struck and rolled over the former president of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufuor, who was also the African Union's chairman at the time, on November 14, 2007, he managed to escape without injury.

When the car eventually came to stop on the sidewalk, onlookers assisted his security guys in removing the man. A witness reported that the president left the building cradling his head.

At the Opeibea House traffic signal Intersection on the Airport - 37 Military Hospital route, a driver in a Mercedes Benz ignored the siren of the presidential convoy and struck Kufuor's car head-on.

The driver who caused the collision was taken into custody and charged with four charges of hazardous driving, negligently causing hurt, driving while intoxicated, and failing to yield to the presidential procession in front of an Accra motor court.

Investigations also established that the accused was intoxicated at the time of the collision because, according to an Alco Sensor III test, his blood alcohol content was 0.41% rather than the permitted 0.08%.

The accused allegedly acknowledged consuming at least one bottle of alcohol before to the event.
