Kaizer Chiefs DStv Diski Challenge side have been docked three points
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has punished Kaizer Chiefs DStv Diski Challenge team by docking three points. The team was found guilty of fielding a suspended player, Puso Dithejane, during their match against Maritzburg United. The punishment was confirmed by PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu, who also announced that the player received a one-match suspension.
Majavu stated that both Kaizer Chiefs and Dithejane appeared before the PSL to answer to charges of fielding a suspended player. They both pleaded guilty and were subsequently convicted by the disciplinary committee (DC). The DC ruled that Kaizer Chiefs should forfeit the match in favour of Maritzburg United, be fined R10,000 (wholly suspended for 24 hours on the condition that they are not found guilty of the same offence again), and carry the costs of the DC hearing. Additionally, Dithejane received an additional one-match suspension.
The points deduction means that Kaizer Chiefs will drop from fourth to fifth place with 46 points in the log, while Maritzburg United will climb from position 12 to 10th in the Diski Challenge table log. However, these changes will not impact the top of the log, as SuperSport United will be crowned the league champions on Saturday.
