Ashanti schools sports federation has handed a 2-year suspension to some schools for fielding unqualified students in the ongoing Ashanti Region inter schools and colleges Athletics competition which started on the 4th of May ,2023 .
These schools after thorough investigation were found guilty for fielding unqualified students in the ongoing games .
General Secretary of the Federation who doubles as an Executive member and the Head of PE department of Opoku Ware school Prince Acheampong popular known as Tactical Sabuto said in an interview with media giants Wontumi Fm on their afternoon sports show Nationwide Sports that , these schools breached the laws governing the federation by fielding unqualified athletes and as such would face strict sanctions for their unprofessional conduct.
He further stated that , before the start of the games , the President of the Federation issued a strong warning to the various PE teachers to desist from any form of fielding unqualified players in order for fair play to be exhibited and would not foresee any court injunction again after was happened in the soccer competition .
These teachers were recalcitrant and went overboard to field these unqualified players and as such have been handed :
• A 2 YEAR SUSPENSION FROM ALL SPORTING ACTIVITIES IN THE REGION
• PE TEACHERS INVOLVED IN THESE ACTS HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO THE REGIONAL EDUCATIONAL COUNCIL FOR SANCTIONS
These schools involved in these acts are as follows
• KUMASI HIGH SCHOOL
• OUR LADY OF GRACE SHS (MENS)
• BONWIRE SHS
• ST JOSEPH SHS
• ADVENTIST SHS BANTAMA
These schools have been found guilty of fielding unqualified players and would face the sanctions aforementioned.
Mr Prince Acheampong further stated that , alot of investigations are still ongoing and any school who is found of indulging in any foul play in the ongoing Athletics competition would face similar sanctions .
He also urged all PE teachers to desist from any form of unprofessional conduct which would ruin the schools reputation and also promote the quality and fairness of the competition .
In addition he said, these measures have been taken to assemble the best of athletes from various schools to compete in the national athletics competition to be held later this year .
