Liverpool have held talks with Romeo Lavia's agent over a possible summer move, according to reports.
Liverpool are looking for an addition in midfield after a disappointing season at Merseyside.
The Red Devils still have a chance to qualify for the Champions League if Newcastle or Manchester United make mistakes in front of them.
However, Jurgen Klopp is poised to prepare for next season, with the list of midfield targets appearing to be growing by the day.

Liverpool are not the only ones interested in Lavia, with Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea all said to be keeping an eye on the midfielder.
Despite only joining Southampton last summer, the Belgium international will leave St Mary's at the end of the season, with relegation to the Championship almost certain.
However, Premier League clubs must act quickly if they want to secure the teen's signature, after Manchester City included a generous buyback clause in his contract when he left the Etihad .
Fortunately, this provision doesn't take effect until the summer of 2024, Fabrizio Romano claims, meaning he could become the subject of a mass bidding war at the end of the season. Advertisement
Indeed, a starting midfielder could be the missing piece for Liverpool, as Fabinho has failed to reach the top in recent seasons. While the Brazilian player is about 10 years older than Lavia.
Klopp is also said to be keen on signing Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, with the Argentine set to move to new pastures at the end of the campaign.
