The unexpected 5-1 victory at Brighton on Monday has given them hope that they can continue in the top division for a further 70 consecutive seasons.

Sean Dyche, the manager of Everton, acknowledges that his ambitions for the team will have a "different viewpoint" if they remain in the Premier League.

Their unexpected 5-1 victory at Brighton on Monday lifted hopes that they can continue in the top division for a record-breaking 70th consecutive season as it lifted them clear of the relegation zone.

Many players have unfinished contracts this summer, including longtime captain Seamus Coleman, whose campaign was cut short by a knee injury a fortnight ago. However, realistically speaking, no decisions can be taken until it is known which tier they will play in.

Before Sunday's intimidating visit from Premier League leaders Manchester City, Dyche said, "There are some outlines that I've been speaking with Kev Thelwell (director of football) about, a way forward, but at the end of the day it still comes down to what is happening now."

"When I arrived, everyone was talking about Everton being finished. We've clearly demonstrated that we're not finished and that there is still vitality in what we're doing.

"That does alter the situation. The first worry is that playing in the Premier League is a different perspective.

But there are discussions taking place in the background about what is required because you must go on.

"I'm used to the fluid nature of this industry. You always think flexibly; it's not necessary to have an exact thought.

"It has to do with various player circumstances, player contracts, club operations, and club operations going forward.

In the end, this season is about moving past this circumstance and developing for the future.

Although Coleman's knee operation was successful, Dyche remained unsure of the 34-year-old defender's future with the team.

"Seamus underwent surgery, and everything went fine. If all goes well, he should be ready for the upcoming season, said Dyche.
