With only three games remaining, the Saints are eight points out of a playoff spot.
As relegation approaches, Southampton manager Ruben Selles acknowledges it is getting harder to inspire players, but he emphasized that everyone would continue to fight until the conclusion of the season.
The Saints are eight points from safety at the basement after Monday's 4-3 loss at Nottingham Forest and have just three games left.
If Southampton loses to Fulham on Saturday or other results throughout the weekend go against them, they will be confirmed to return to the Sky Bet Championship for the first time since 2012.
Despite the gloomy situation following a 10-game losing streak, Selles is adamant that everyone is committed to achieving the greatest outcomes.
The Southampton manager stated, "It is our duty and our responsibility to fight to the absolute last second and that is what we are going to do.
"We are aware that relegation is quite likely, but there is still a possibility because the math does not support it.
Naturally, things are growing more difficult since they are not improving and because it has been a trying week for us.
"We gave Nottingham Forest everything we had, but the outcome wasn't what we wanted.
"It is always difficult to go to work the next day and to be extremely motivated when you get hit like that, but I think we are in a good place that we can go tomorrow to compete and try to win the game."
Despite the fact that Selles acknowledges Saints may find it difficult to retain important players in the Championship, like as captain James Ward-Prowse, he believes the team is in a good position to compete for an immediate promotion.
"I think the club has everything to bounce back very quickly and be in the Premier League (again) the year after," he said.
The organization inside, the technical staff, the players, and the future players, if it happens, can help. We also have our stadium with our fans who will support us.
We have a solid foundation of beliefs and philosophy, and now we just need to put the pieces in place to go on to the next chapter.
