NDC primaries: I will be surprised if Mahama falls below 90% - Ben Ephson

Pollster Ben Ephson has predicted a landslide victory for flag bearer John Dramani Mahama in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential election.

Ephson said in an interview on Fiifi Banson TV that anythingbelow 90% would mean thatthe former president did not do well in the race against two other candidates - former finance minister Dr Kwabena Duffuor and former the mayor of Kumasi, Kojo Bonsu. "If John Mahama drops below 90%, I will be surprised. Dr. Duffuor is qualified to be a presidential candidate. But why should the representatives choose a sales person, who is the president for a new person in the field?

"Mahama
is young and if it fallsbelow 90% I will be surprised," said the veteran journalist. He said Duffuor would have done well if he was the reason why Mahama was performing sub-90%.

He was asked what percentage
the other two contestantswould get, Duffuor would get 6% and Kojo Bonsu 3%. Duffuor left the race

A few
hours before the opening of the polls for the presidential and parliamentary elections, the head of Agbey office, one of the presidential candidates, DrKwabena Duffuor, announced that he has dropped out of the gate race.

Speaking at a press conferenceheld on Friday, May 12, 2023 at the Accra Institute of Fiscal Studies, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor listed three main reasons behind her decision to leave the competition. The first reason is the inability of the party leaders to correct the errors filed in the electoral register. He expressed concern that the voter registration formcontained several discrepancies that could compromise the integrity of the election. "In ameeting chaired by the former Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho, all those involved in the meeting agreed that the chairman of the party,Johnson Asiedu Nketia, will soon establish a team oftechnical work that includesthe process of the threerepresentatives who will be candidates for the position of president. and the electoralcommittee of the party will find out as soon as possible the correction of errors in the electoral registration due to the presidential primaries down. "The technical committee will submit a report to the party after this is done.As I speak to you, our technical team is now at the partyheadquarters to work a. “However, despite the promises made by the party leadership to me and my colleagues in an unacceptable act of dishonesty, continued to invite journalistsannouncing that the electionwould take place tomorrow, without solving the problem. filed the list of voters as decided during the meeting of the Council of Elders.

Secondly, Dr. Duffuor expressed his displeasure with the decision of the NDC leaders to distribute the ballot papers in different regions and regionswithout involving the candidates.

"...as it stands now,
the party has started to distribute election documents in various districts and regions without involvement."

Finally, Dr Duffuor accused the NDC of not being ready to holdmeaningless election. "I wantto reiterate my commitment to the party and its foundations. However, my concern that the party is not ready to organizefree and fair elections is clear to all. Participating in this would be like knowingly drinking from a poisoned bowl,” he added.

Earlier, GhanaWeb reported that Dr Kwabena Duffuor haswithdrawn the interlocutory order filed against the party leaders. Dr. Kwabena Duffuor filed a lawsuit in court on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, for involvement in the issue of the NDC primaries.
