Ampem Darkoa crowned 2022/23 Women's Premier League champions

Ampem Darkoa Ladies have won the Malta Guinness Women's Premier League for the second time in a row after defeating Hasaacas Ladies 5-3 on penalties in Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex on Friday.

Hasaacas women, after all their efforts, could not erase the disappointment of last season'sfinal defeat as they lost their trip to represent Ghana on the continent. Doris Boaduwaa scored a stunning goal in the 61st minute of the game to putHasmal ladies in front while Ophelia Amponsah responded with a late goal for Techiman club.

It was raining in the football capital as hundreds of fans gathered to watch the much-anticipated clash between Ghana's top two teams. The opening period of the game saw the Hasaacas Ladies trying to break the deadlock with Doreen Copson, Mary Opoku and Doris Boaduwaa combining to torment the defending champions.

A great dancer,
Mary Amponsah impressed at the start keeping the Hasaacas ladies back on their toes with her speed and skill, alongside Elizabeth Owusu who was also a threat to the South zone champions . The four-time winners almost opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Boaduwaa chipped away at Ishetu Fatawu who managed to make it a goal as Ampem Darkoa stayed in the game.

The first 45 minutes of the game ended in Kumasi as all theefforts of both teams failed. Coach Basigi's defenders struck a high note as they cameafter the break with a formidable attitude to send their opponents who are still struggling to get into the game.

Ampem Darkoa played more, clearing his line to prevent Hasaacas from finding the net and Mavis Owusu making a save in the penalty area. Within minutes of the break, it was Boaduwaa who managed to break the deadlock with a fineheader 60 minutes on the clock to give Hasmal Ladies 1-0.

The defending champions, after conceding, tried to equalize but got no response as Hasaacas Ladies goalkeeper Grace Buoadu made a brilliant save. The joy and fear of the Hasaacas ended as soon asOphelia Serwaa Amponsah took the creator with skill and powerto grab the equalizer for the winners in the 84th minute of the game.

Ampem Darkoa immediately got the important equalizer andcontinued to fight for thewinning goal leaving nothing to shoot for long but it was good enough that the game went into extra time after 90 minutes of the game after tasting. Another30 minutes of extra time wasn'tenough as both teams couldn'tgrab the winning goal which ended in penalties.

For Sekondi's side, a much-promised season ended in heartbreak without a trophy. Ampem Darkoa will receive a cash prize of 50,000 GH while Ampem Darkoa will receive 30,000 GH.
