Over the years, there have been many transfers of Ghanaian footballers that have shockedGhanaians and footballers alike.

Some players left the big clubs in their prime to join the lowerclubs while others achieved big moves during their junior careers. 

There are many, but GhanaWeb takes a look at the five worsttransfers of Ghanaian footballers. Essien to Madrid 

Michael Essien joining Real Madrid at the end of his career is one of the most unexpected transfers. 

Essien joined Madrid on loan for the 2013-14 season to link upwith his 'grandfather' Jose Mourinho. Before his move, Essien lost his position at Chelsea due to constant injuries and poor form. However, he managed to get a one-time deal. Kevin-Prince Boateng inBarcelona 




Kevin-Prince Boateng's six-month loan move to Barcelona raised eyebrows and will go down in the history books as one of the most spectaculartransfer moves. 

Boateng has no form in the night of his career. He scored three goals in 13 games for Sassuolo in Serie A. 

Asamoah Gyan in Al-Ain 


Asamoah Gyan after joining Sunderland for a club recordand scored 10 goals in his first season left the United Arab Emirates. Gyan was on his wayto becoming a captain next season but surprisingly joined UAE side Al Ain on a tight contract. 

Andre Ayew at Nottingham Forest 

Black Stars captain Andre Ayew moved to Nottingham in the 2023 winter transfer window from Al Sadd. Ayew, 33, joining a Premier League side struggling to survive in the Qatari competition is one of the most sensational transfers of the season.

Frank Acheampong in China 

Frank Acheampong joined Tianjin Jinmen Tiger in 2017 after four seasons with Belgian giants Anderlecht. The winger isin good form and is at the heightof his career to earn a move to China at 24. 

The decision surprised many Ghanaians. Derek Boateng andDnipro 

Former Black Stars midfielder, Dere Boateng's transfer from Getafe to Dnipro in 2011 shocked many Ghanaians. 

He established himself in the Spanish top flight as one of the best defenders and impressed Jose Mourinho who was the coach of Real Madrid at the time. After two seasons at Getafe, Boateng received a transfer to Dnipro to play in the Ukrainian national team.
