Retired investors have been suspended from being appointed to the Finance Ministry after reaching a settlement with thegovernment
Members of the Pensioners Association have, as of Monday, May 15, 2023, suspended their appointment before the Department of Finance.
The suspension of the protestfollows the actions of the seniorpensioners regarding the agreement they are makingwith the Department of Finance to get coupons to their schoolprincipals. However, theypromised to resume their protest if the ministers backed out of any of the agreements they had agreed upon.
A statement released Saturdayby the organizer of the conference, Dr. Adu Anane Antwi, said that among other things, the group has agreed on the following;
Information instructing the payment of all outstanding warrants (including those due May 15, 2023) to retirees by May 15, 2023. The Ministry willpay these coupons to retireeson the due date.
It is expected that the Ministry and the pensioners will meet and reach an agreement on the payment of all outstanding school principals to the pensioners in the coming days. Members of the Pensioner Bondholders Forum opted out of the government's debt relief program and promised to paytheir bonds and principals when due, but the payments are sometimes delayed, causing them to get the Ministry money for payment.

The statement added, "If the ministry abandons any of the agreed points, we will resume the appointment before the ministry." For many retirees, late payments affect not only them but also their dependents. In aninterview with the media, one angry person expressed his frustration and called on the government to release the money immediately.
“All we want is to be paid. The Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta promised to give us our money but so far we have not received anything.
“We are checking everything because we have worked sohard, there is no way that any of our money will go without paying a fee that we will not follow. We are not asking for social services, we are asking for our money.
“Please let the Minister ofFinance know that he must fulfill his promise and pay us. We will not be here if he fulfillshis promise,” he said.
However, the government agreed to pay them all special permits.
