James Maddison and Moises Caicedo, Leicester v Brighton
Mauricio Pochettino and Chelsea are tipped to win the pursuit of a sensational Premier League ace and he could finally topple his 'idol' at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are linked with former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann and former Spain manager Luis Enrique following the sacking of Graham Potter. However, they chose to bring in Frank Lampard until the end of the season to give them more time to consider potential candidates.
Mauricio Pochettino has recently become the favorite to lead Chelsea. Earlier this week, The Athletic's David Ornstein revealed that he will be announced as Chelsea's next permanent head coach "in the coming days". Pochettino's arrival is yet to be made official, although it certainly won't be long before Chelsea reveal it.
Chelsea have been backed to make Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana the first signing of the Pochettino era, with the former Tottenham boss unconvinced by current options Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy.
However, Inter have quelled the rumors surrounding their goalkeeper and confirmed he will stay in Italy this summer.
Instead, Brighton star Moises Caicedo could become Chelsea's first new signing under Pochettino.
Chelsea and Arsenal made offers for the outstanding midfielder in the January transfer window, and Caicedo even submitted a transfer request. But Brighton has told potential suitors he is not going anywhere and will reassess the situation this summer.
Chelsea target 'confirms' Liverpool target
Liverpool are "confirmed" are pursuing Caicedo, while Arsenal also stay in the game because of him. Brighton are said to have placed a bid of £80m.
According to Goal's live transfer blog May 13 at 15:00:
48), citing a source from Spain, Chelsea is ready to "break the bank" when making Pochettino a target of Liverpool and Arsenal.
Blues chairman Todd Boehly has made an offer of 80 million euros (£70.2 million) which he will soon send to Brighton. If previous reports are to be believed, that won't be enough to blackmail Seagulls. Brighton will likely ask Chelsea to add an additional £10m to this offer to complete the deal. But with the huge financial resources Chelsea have, they will easily match Caicedo's £80m valuation.
The Ecuador international's agent, Manuel Sierra, recently encouraged Chelsea by revealing Blues star N'Golo Kante as his 'idol'.
“Moises is completely focused on the end of the season; All assessments will be postponed until the summer,” the representative said. "It's no surprise that there aren't many such young and talented midfielders in Europe. I think he can really improve every aspect of the game.
"He can fit into any [team] because he's ready for anything. His dream is to play in the Champions League and go as far as possible in football. His idol? ? N'Golo Kante.
Coincidentally, Caicedo will likely replace Kante in West London. Kante is now 32 years old and in the twilight of his career.
He is loved at Chelsea but is no longer a sure-fire starter there. He had only recently returned from a lengthy injury break, only to have another problem, according to Lampard.
