Manchester United defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford to improve their chances of finishing in the top four after suffering back-to-back Premier League losses.

In order to give Liverpool, who were one point behind in fourth at the start of the day, hope of overtaking them for a Champions League position, Erik ten Hag's team had lost to Brighton and West Ham.

However, Alejandro Garnacho added a second goal in stoppage time to secure a victory that put Manchester United four points ahead of the Reds with three games left. Anthony Martial had opened the scoring in the first half.

Due to Marcus Rashford's absence due to injury, it appeared that the hosts would have trouble scoring as they wasted a number of good opportunities, particularly via Antony.

After sprinting into space, the winger curled an effort just wide before firing a header over from close range while unmarked.

However, Antony assisted Martial's first-half goal when Bruno Fernandes set him up and he gave a selfless pass to Martial for the tap-in.

After being set up by a Fernandes backheel, Antony had another chance to score in the second half, but his effort went just wide of the goal.

In the fifth minute of stoppage time, though, substitute Garnacho ultimately gave Manchester United their second goal when he sped through the Wolves defence and fired past Dan Bentley.

As they concluded the game without making a shot on goal, the visitors hardly ever threatened.

Manchester United is still in fourth place but is tied with Newcastle for third place on 66 points. Wolves are currently in 13th place.
