This could be a test campaign for Liverpool, but Jurgen Klopp thinks his side could still struggle next season
Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool can improve enough this summer to ensure they will challenge for the Premier League title again next season.
The Reds enter the final two weeks of their fifth season and have only one outside chance of breaking into the top four with leaders Manchester City, 20 points apart and caught up in a title battle with Arsenal.
This is only the second time in five seasons that Liverpool have finished outside of the top two and the decline this season on the common ground in recent years has at times been alarming.
However, the recent return to form has seen Klopp's men go eight games unbeaten and they enter Monday's game against Leicester City looking to extend their winning streak to seven.
Klopp believes he and his players can make the changes needed to ensure they are top of the table again next season, and says his side can rediscover the consistency they have had. consolidated their results for most of the past five years. "There are two games in a season, maybe three, four or five, when you face Man City, Arsenal and the rest," said the Liverpool manager. "There are five million ways to win a football game, you just have to find one.
"A successful season is when you're ready for every game, you can win about 25 games, then if City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle, Tottenham, Man United are all in those 25 games, that's even better. even better.
"But it's about creating a team that can win the majority of games? That's right. We can. It was never about what other teams were doing. We were twice unable to be champions with 1 point and someone would say it was because we didn't have that player at the time.
"Getting around 90 points is absolutely crazy, pretty special and no one should take it for granted. The top seven get even closer, it's going to be harder and more competitive. It's not easy, but everyone with a good idea has a chance to participate. If you're part of the battle up there, you might as well win."
Klopp added:
I never interviewed these boys. Never. Mentally, these boys are truly special. But we still haven't been able to deliver consistently good and successful football for the length of the season. "We can't otherwise we'd be somewhere else. Is this normal for humans? It's a bit of a long time, but it's true. For everyone, it's a relief to start over, to win back 3 points convincingly without being deprived.
We have a clear idea of ??what we want to do. We won 1-0 but I have seen a lot of good things that we can develop. There's nothing for Match of the Day, it won't show up there, but I've seen a lot in those games. I totally agree with the reaction now, but we all think it's a little too long before we show it. All we can do is look to the last three games and make the most of what we have so far."
