Hosts the second annual GEA Leadership Conference; 83 participants graduated 


The Ghana EmployersAssociation (GEA) held its second annual leadership conference (ALC) at the Labadi Beach Hotel and graduated 83 participants from the Women'sFuture Program (FFP), with a call from the president of the association , Dan Acheampong, Women's Engagement. in the board of directors.

In his welcome speech, Dan Acheampong, said thataccording to the 2021 household census and the 7th Round of Ghana Living Standards Survey report, most of the women in informal jobs work at the sales level in their organizations, centralmanagement, professional expertise. and technical jobsdominated by men. "It means that the decision-making team at our headquarters is not organized, a concern that causes us to lose valuable things from our beloved women who are the most and society,"he said.

The meeting brought together a number of high-level women leaders under the theme: "Promoting the future by actively participating in decision-making". The chairperson for the event was Mrs. Elizabeth Ohene, a seasoned journalist, journalistand chairman of the Board of Social Security & National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).

In his opening remarks, the BBC writer and former Minister of State in the President's Office and Minister of Education said that women play an importantrole in society, so they should involvement in decision-making at all levels. Speaking on the theme, the guest speaker of the conference, John Kofi Adomakoh, Managing Director of GCB Bank Plc, told the audience some of the obstaclesthat prevent women from realizing their potential.


She said
 limited access to education and training, lack of representation and role models, lack of standards and support systems, culture and society and gender stereotypes are some of the barriers women face. The GCB CEO suggested some practical ways to break down barriers, including:education and awareness, counseling, policy change and promotion, and recognizing and celebrating women's achievements.

He commended GEA for leading the call to increase the percentage of women in decision-making positions and to close the gender gap at executive and board levels. Mr.Adomakoh also added that GCB Bank Plc, as the largest bank in Ghana, is in line with the FFP's goals and has ensured that it continues to enroll some of the top female executives in the program the body.

While speaking
 to the media at the conference, GEA Managing Director Alex Frimpong said that the ALC is an importantpart of the FFP Associationwhich was originally held in 2022, and graduated 65 participants in groups 1 and 2. This year's ALC edition graduated 83 women inCohorts 3 and 4. FFP Ghana was launched in 2019 by GEA in partnership with the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (NHO), to close the gender gap to leadership positions. This program hasthree modules, namely: Leadership Development, Rhetoric and Board Competency to ensure that women's rights are used in the organization. The programwhich is the brainchild of NHO is also being replicated in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Tunisia. During a paneldiscussion on "The PowerWithin: Creating BusinessNetworks for the Development of Women Leaders", Freda Duplan, Chairman of the Board,Zenith Bank Ghana Limited; Michael Bozumbil, CEO of Petrosol Ghana Limited and Thelma Tawiah, Partner, Keystone Solicitors; digest the topic in the interest of the participants. Legislators used the platform to show how women can use socialnetworking to advance their careers.
