Fans wondered how Gabriel Martinelli did not get punished for a rough tackle on Brighton's Kaoru Mitoma.

Martinelli challenged the Japan international early on at the Emirates but collided with him in a horrible way.

Not keeping an eye on the ball, he jumped at Mitoma, his forearm slamming into the 25-year-old and sending him crashing to the field with a terrifying impact.

The Seagulls winger needed treatment after the collision but somehow Martinelli was spared.

The Brazilian is dangerous and Gary Neville said in a comment that he might even get a red card. However, to the surprise of many, no action was taken by Andy Madley or VAR.

One fan wrote:

"Martinelli didn't try with the ball, but went straight at Mitoma and hit him in the face with his arm. Not even a penalty."

One second says:

"How did Martinelli not get registered for this challenge on Mitoma???"

The third added:

“How did Martinelli get away with that?

The fourth said:

"I honestly think Martinelli could have seen red for that, very dangerous."

Moments later, Martinelli was the victim of a shocking tackle from Moises Caicedo, who attacked him in what could be seen as an act of revenge on behalf of his teammate.

Martinelli had to be looked after by the medical team and after struggling to play he was eventually replaced by former Brighton winger Leandro Trossard.

Gary Neville was left deserted in the early stages of Arsenal's must-win game against Brighton on Sunday afternoon.

Sky Pundit was commenting on Martin Tyler when Gabriel Martinelli engaged in an aerial challenge against Brighton's Kaoru Mitoma, which collided dangerously in the midfield.

It was a reckless tackle, the Gunners midfielder collided with the opponent's head, but the referee did not issue any discipline, causing Neville and Tyler to argue a lot in the comment box.

“I have to say it didn't sound very smart at first,” said Neville.

Martin Tyler replied:

"We have a long way to go but I have to say this is where you'll wait a minute."

“Yeah, he was never there to start and Mitoma wasn't the type to always win his matches, so all he did was one on one. Either a shoulder or an elbow above the head. Maybe a bit like a boat, Neville continued.

"The ball was going up in the air and he [Mitoma] kept an eye on the ball. That's not cool at all.

'Didn't he put it? OH. Unbelievable.

"I don't think I would complain if it was a red, or have I lost my mind?"

Tyler:

'No no. The first reaction is always important and yours is the same way and I feel the same way.
