Opare has been badmouthing me to people within the Bawumia camp - Kennedy

Presidencia aspirant hopeful of the New Patriotic Party, Kennedy Agyapong, has accused former Member of Parliament for Suhum, Frederick Opare-Ansah, of spreading false information about him within the Bawumia camp. Agyapong warned Opare-Ansah to desist from making such claims or face exposure.

During a campaign speech, Agyapong claimed that Opare-Ansah had been badmouthing him to members of the vice president's campaign team. In retaliation, Agyapong accused Opare-Ansah of taking bribes from the National Democratic Congress when he served as his deputy on the parliamentary select committee on communications.

Agyapong also claimed that Opare-Ansah had approached him first with a proposal to be his coordinator, but was rejected by his team as they doubted his interest. Agyapong stated, "He came to me with a plea to be my coordinator, we sacked him because he came to demand for money. He went to Bawumia's team after he was sacked from my camp. If you are going to lie to someone, should it be Kennedy Agyapong?"

Agyapong, who has announced his retirement from Parliament, is seeking to lead the NPP as flagbearer in the 2024 elections. He faces competition from Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and former Minister of Trade and Industries, Alan Kyerematen.

Agyapong's campaign has been anchored on discipline and job creation through the acronym, PHD, which stands for Patriotism, Honesty, and Discipline.

It remains to be seen how these allegations will affect the NPP's internal politics as they prepare for the upcoming elections. Agyapong's warning to Opare-Ansah suggests that he is willing to take a tough stance against anyone who he feels is hindering his campaign. The NPP will need to ensure that their candidates remain focused on the issues and do not engage in mudslinging, as this could have a negative impact on their chances in the election.

Overall, this incident highlights the importance of maintaining discipline and unity within political parties. In a highly competitive election, it is essential that candidates focus on their policies and ideas rather than engaging in personal attacks. The NPP will need to ensure that their candidates adhere to this principle if they hope to succeed in 2024.
