Danilo Breaks Silence on Controversial Whistling of Messi in PSG’s Win

In a comprehensive 5-0 victory over AC Ajaccio at the Parc des Princes, Paris Saint-Germain saw Lionel Messi return to their starting lineup after serving a one-week suspension for an unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia, missing the previous match against Troyes. However, the match was marred by controversial whistling directed at Messi from sections of the crowd. Danilo, one of Messi's teammates, expressed his disappointment at the treatment Messi received and emphasized the importance of unity within the team.

Danilo, speaking to Canal Plus after the match, acknowledged the mixed reception Messi received, with both whistling and applause. Nevertheless, the veteran midfielder expressed his dismay at the treatment of his teammate, emphasizing the collective nature of the team and the need for support rather than individual criticism. Danilo stated, "Yes, it's hard because we see teammates being whistled; it hurts...Yes, but it hurts; he is a teammate and we are all together. If you have to whistle, it's the whole team. But it's okay; we continue, we have a championship that we have to win and that's what matters."

With only three matches remaining in the 2022-23 Ligue 1 season, Paris Saint-Germain currently sits comfortably at the top of the table with 81 points, six points clear of second-placed RC Lens. Barring a significant collapse, PSG is on track to secure their historic 11th Ligue 1 title. Once the league title is secured, the focus will likely shift to the future of Lionel Messi and the ongoing speculation surrounding his stay at the club.

During the match against Ajaccio, PSG dominated proceedings, with Fabian Ruiz and Achraf Hakimi finding the net in the first half. In the second half, Kylian Mbappe scored two goals, and Ajaccio suffered an own goal by Mohamed Youssouf. The game ended with both teams reduced to ten men after Thomas Mangani and Achraf Hakimi were involved in an altercation.

While PSG's victory was impressive, the focus was undeniably on Messi's return and the mixed reaction he received from some sections of the Parisian crowd. Despite the temporary setback of the suspension, Messi played the full 90 minutes, showcasing his commitment to the team. As PSG inches closer to securing the league title, the attention will undoubtedly shift to Messi's future, with speculations mounting about whether he will continue his stay at the club beyond this season.

The controversy surrounding the whistling directed at Messi serves as a reminder of the passionate and demanding nature of football fans. However, Danilo's comments highlight the importance of unity and support within the team. As PSG aims to cement their dominance in French football, maintaining a cohesive and supportive environment will be crucial in achieving their goals.
