Chris Armas discloses question Cristiano Ronaldo asked him during spell at Man Utd

During his tenure at Manchester United, Chris Armas, who worked under Ralf Rangnick, has shed light on a conversation he had with Cristiano Ronaldo. Armas joined the club last year amidst a challenging season, and he is currently seeking a new position after leaving Leeds following Javi Gracia's dismissal.

Armas faced speculation that some United players did not respond well to his coaching methods, with rumors even suggesting that he was nicknamed "Ted Lasso" by members of the squad, a reference to the fictional manager of AFC Richmond. However, Armas, in an interview with The Athletic, refuted the "lies" that were circulated during his time at the club. He also discussed his interactions with Ronaldo, revealing that the Portuguese star inquired about Armas' background during their time together.

"When I initially arrived, it didn't feel like, 'Oh, the American is here.' It wasn't like that," Armas stated. "You talk to players and Cristiano (Ronaldo) would say, 'Oh, you're from the Bronx.' They read a little bit about you, they know a few things here and there."

However, Armas acknowledged that as the club faced tougher times in terms of results, he became an easy target and was subject to false reports about training sessions and other aspects. Armas pointed out that journalists or those spreading such information were simply lying. He questioned whether being American played a role in him becoming a target, but he believed that he became an easy scapegoat during a difficult period in the season.

Armas also referred to a conversation he had with United legend Sir Alex Ferguson, using the term "lie" once again. He recounted their meeting on his first night at the club, where he had the opportunity to introduce himself to Ferguson and others in the room. Armas expressed his admiration for Ferguson's books and received well wishes for his time at the club. However, Armas was surprised when it was falsely reported that Ferguson had claimed Armas was throwing his resume around. Armas emphasized that the claims were untrue and that meeting Ferguson was an honor for him.

Reflecting on his time in England, Armas expressed positivity despite the challenges he faced. He appreciated the warm reception he received from people in the vicinity of his residence and within the clubs. Armas cherished the connections he made during his time there, mentioning the support and greetings he received from players like Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, and Victor Lindelof when he returned to Old Trafford with Leeds.

Ultimately, Armas valued the personal connections he formed during his time in England, considering them more significant than any criticism or rumors. He acknowledged the importance of wins and losses but emphasized the significance of the relationships he built throughout his journey.
