Real Madrid's hopes in La Liga are almost over and the best they can hope for from here is to finish second, behind Barcelona. Their 1-0 win over Getafe at the weekend was a boost in that respect. Marco Asensio's goal in the 70th minute of the match sealed the victory and fixed 3 points for Los Blancos.
But now it looks like there is some bad news for Real Madrid. Los Blancos may have points deducted due to an incident involving a substitution on match day.
As SPORT reported, Asensio initially left the field, making way for Alvaro Odriozola. And in fact, it has gone beyond the confines of the legal field. However, an injury to Eduardo Camavinga kept Carlo Ancelotti out of action, who opted to bring the Spaniard back onto the pitch to let the France international play at full-back.
Asensio should have been considered a substitute when he left the field, and the injured Camavinga should have stayed on or left Real Madrid with ten men. This change is the fifth and last time for Ancelotti.
Real Madrid may have points deducted due to the incident
It remains to be seen how things will play out. If anything happens, Getafe or any other club will have to file a complaint by Tuesday.
If this is done and successful, Real Madrid will lose the match 0-3 and will also be fined around 10,000 euros.
Of course, nothing seems to have happened so far and fans expect it to stay that way. If Real Madrid drop all three points, they will be one point behind Atletico Madrid and drop to third place.
