Chelsea can capitalise on rare £127m transfer chance as Mauricio Pochettino eyes perfect rebuild

Chelsea has a rare opportunity to capitalize on a £127 million transfer chance as Mauricio Pochettino eyes a perfect rebuild at the club. Pochettino, who is rumored to be the next manager at Stamford Bridge, will not only need to trim down a bloated squad but also identify and recruit the right players to strengthen Chelsea further. After weeks of positive conversations, it is understood that an agreement has been reached between Pochettino and Chelsea, and he is set to take over from Frank Lampard at the end of the season.

Although Pochettino has yet to sign the contract, it is expected that he will do so in the coming days, giving him a full pre-season to plan for the next campaign. Todd Boehly, the Chelsea owner, is reportedly prepared to provide Pochettino with a significant transfer budget to support his project at the club. While there will be temptations to spend big, there might be some great bargains available if Leicester City, Leeds United, or Everton join Southampton in the Championship next season.

Football.london has identified eight players valued at £127 million from potentially relegated sides that Chelsea could consider signing. One of them is Romeo Lavia, who was previously linked with a move to Chelsea before joining Southampton from Manchester City. Despite their unsuccessful attempt to sign him in the summer transfer window, Lavia remains on Chelsea's radar.

Chelsea's recent 2-2 draw against relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest highlighted the challenging rebuild that Pochettino will face. Despite dominating possession with 76% and managing 14 shots compared to Forest's 11, Chelsea lacked a clinical edge. Forest, on the other hand, had a higher expected goals (xG) value of 1.30 compared to Chelsea's 1.17. Players like Raheem Sterling and Joao Felix missed several chances, while Forest's defense had conceded 40 goals in away games throughout the Premier League season.

In conclusion, Chelsea's potential appointment of Mauricio Pochettino opens up an opportunity for the club to make significant transfers and strengthen the squad. With a reported budget available, Pochettino can potentially target players from potentially relegated sides. The example of Romeo Lavia, who was previously linked with Chelsea, demonstrates that the club has identified young talents for potential recruitment. However, the recent draw against Nottingham Forest highlighted the need for clinical finishing, and Pochettino will have to address this issue during his rebuild at Chelsea.
