Mikel Arteta prepares Arsenal scouting mission after double transfer success

Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, is reportedly preparing for a scouting mission as he aims to bolster the team's midfield in the upcoming summer transfer window. While Arteta's immediate focus remains on guiding Arsenal to victory against Brighton, it is believed that he has a keen interest in Moises Caicedo, who currently plays for Brighton in the Premier League. Caicedo, an Ecuadorian international, has made a seamless transition to English football since joining Brighton about a year and a half ago.

Caicedo's time at Brighton has not been without its share of controversy. During the January transfer window, Arsenal made an attempt to sign him, and Caicedo publicly expressed his desire to leave Brighton on Instagram. Despite Arsenal submitting a £70 million bid, which was rejected, Caicedo stated his pride in potentially bringing in a record transfer fee for Brighton and explained his aspiration to seize the opportunity offered by Arsenal. However, he ultimately signed a contract extension with Brighton until 2027.

Despite the contract extension, Arsenal remains interested in acquiring Caicedo's services. In January, there were rumors that Arsenal's multiple unsuccessful bids had strained their relationship with Brighton. This could have been concerning, considering the success of Ben White, who made the switch from Brighton to Arsenal in the previous summer and has since excelled. White, initially not considered a standout player at Brighton, has become a key figure in Arsenal's lineup. In the same transfer window that Caicedo voiced his desire to join Arsenal, Arteta successfully signed Caicedo's Brighton teammate, Leandro Trossard, who has made an immediate impact at Arsenal.

The success of former teammates like White and Trossard in London may have influenced Caicedo's decision to publicly express his stance on a potential move to Arsenal. Brighton's style of play seemingly aligns well with Arteta's requirements at Arsenal. The Gunners' manager has undoubtedly identified several qualities in Caicedo that he admires, as demonstrated during the Ecuadorian's impressive performance when Brighton visited the Emirates Stadium last season. Caicedo played a pivotal role in Brighton's 2-1 victory over Arsenal in April, dealing a blow to Arsenal's top-four aspirations.

As Brighton faces Arsenal once again, Caicedo has the opportunity to further diminish Arsenal's chances of winning their first title since 2004. However, Arteta remains determined to secure Caicedo's services for the upcoming season, envisioning him as a potential addition to Arsenal's squad. For now, Caicedo remains a Brighton player, aiming to help his team qualify for the Europa League.
