Barcelona players dart down the tunnel as Espanyol fans chase them after title win
Barcelona players were forced to safety after Espanyol fans flooded the pitch during La Liga championship celebrations.
The Blaugrana won their 27th La Liga title and the first since 2019 after a 4-2 win over their city rivals at home.
Robert Lewandowski scored a brace, while Alejandro Balde and Jules Kounde also scored before the home side responded with a couple of consoling strikes.
Barca's players and staff burst into joy after their 27th win of the season and confirmed their status as champions after taking a 14-point lead in the remaining four matches.
But just as the team was celebrating and chanting "CAMPEONES" on the RCD stadium, suddenly the team started sprinting off the field and into the tunnel. Later, it was reported that some Espanyol fans tried to get on the pitch and chase their opponents. It is not clear if any Barca players or staff were injured, but the scene was extremely chaotic.

ITV4 cameras captured the moment Barca realized there were invaders on the pitch and quickly abandoned their celebration to hide.
Spanish journalist Guillem Balague confirmed that those responsible were extremists who covered their faces and chanted "catch them".
Their entrance to the tunnel was blocked by police arriving at the scene, and after fans started throwing objects, the guards continued to advance. Image:

Undoubtedly, the celebrations continued in the away dressing room. Barca did not lift the trophy at their opponents' hands tonight and were not expected.
Instead, they will take him to the sold-out Nou Camp next week when they host Real Sociedad in the penultimate home game of the campaign.
