The 23-year-old academy graduate has appeared in each of Lampard's eight games since taking over as interim manager.

Trevoh Chalobah put on a strong all-around performance in Saturday's 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest, earning plaudits from Frank Lampard, who served as Chelsea's interim manager.

Despite the team's troubles with performances and results, the 23-year-old academy graduate has played in all eight of Lampard's games in charge, making five starts.

Since owner Todd Boehly's frenetic January transfer spending, he has been the club's most noticeable homegrown player, playing both right-back and on the right of a back three as Lampard switches between tactics.

After spending time on loan at Lorient, Ipswich, and Huddersfield, Chalobah is now in his second season with Chelsea's first squad. His 22 Premier League appearances this season are an increase from his 20 from the previous one.

He combined beautifully with Noni Madueke down the right before finding his teammate to score the first of Raheem Sterling's two goals against Forest as Chelsea rallied from a goal behind to avoid the shame of yet another home loss.

"What a selfless young man. He does not express a desire to play in that position, according to Lampard. "Perhaps (his ideal position) will become clear, but I believe he has performed admirably for the team in a back three.

"(He had) a pretty fantastic period when he initially joined the squad. He can play both right-back and center-back well. The wider picture is how hard he's been working since I've returned.

He is a pleasure to practice with every day since he is low maintenance, enthusiastic, and strives to accomplish what you ask him to do on the field, which is fantastic.

When you consider the games and the individual players over my brief time here, I've been really satisfied. Since I didn't have the opportunity to work with Trev when I was previously here (2019–21), I was looking forward to it.

Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly close to becoming Chelsea's next permanent head coach, with a deal reportedly in place for the former Tottenham manager to succeed Lampard at the end of the current campaign.

Choosing which members of the club's huge roster will play a part in his goals will be one of his first challenges.
