After the defeat put Manchester City on the verge of a second championship, Arteta acknowledged that there was "a lot to think about."
After Arsenal's prospects of winning the Premier League were all but dashed by a crushing 3-0 loss at home to Brighton, Mikel Arteta apologized to the fans.
The Seagulls achieved a well-deserved victory at the Emirates thanks to goals from Julio Enciso, Deniz Undav, and Pervis Estupinan in the second half. This means that Manchester City must win one more of their remaining three games to successfully retain their title.
With a game in hand over Arsenal, who have lost five of their past seven games, and the difference between the top two teams now at four points, City may be crowned champions on Saturday night if Arsenal loses against Nottingham Forest.
"A totally different sensation from the one that we all experienced last Sunday (against Newcastle), when we felt proud and like we had done everything necessary to win in some circumstances. The situation today is entirely different, Arteta acknowledged.
Especially for the second half, "We must apologize to our people.
"I need to first accept and process what transpired in the second half.
The second spot is assured after that till the contest is mathematically concluded. That won't change, unfortunately. It will take us a few days to digest because we have to.
"Right now, all I feel is irritation. We had the impression that we lost the game in the second half. We battled very hard to get where we are, and today was a crucial day for us to keep hoping and working for that ambition.
"You cannot perform as well as we did in the second half when you have to play in these situations.
"We must then look. There are many factors to consider and analyze since it cannot happen if a team is capable of achieving that on the largest platform.
