Romelu Lukaku's return to sparkling form has given Inter Milan an extra weapon ahead

Lukaku Resurgent as Inter Milan Target Champions League Final

Romelu Lukaku's resurgence has provided Inter Milan with an additional weapon as they gear up for the decisive Champions League semifinal clash against AC Milan on Tuesday.

Having spent a significant portion of the season sidelined by injuries and carrying the burden of a tarnished reputation following a disappointing World Cup performance, Lukaku has gradually returned to his best form. The Belgian striker has impressively scored five goals and provided three assists in his last six matches. His brace in the 4-2 victory over Sassuolo on Saturday showcased his newfound confidence.

Celebrating his 30th birthday, Lukaku opened and closed the scoring at San Siro. Just before halftime, he skillfully spun past defenders to unleash a powerful strike from the edge of the box for the opener. Later, he confidently drilled in his eighth league goal of the season, securing the victory for Inter.

A striker in such exceptional form would understandably expect to start such a crucial match on Tuesday. However, it is likely that veteran Edin Dzeko will partner with Lautaro Martinez up front for the second leg against Milan, with Lukaku providing impact as a substitute.

"While every player desires to start, the coach has to make decisions for the benefit of the team," commented Lukaku. "As I have always stated, the most important thing is Inter, and that's why I give my all for the team."

Inter CEO Beppe Marotta mentioned on Saturday that there is a possibility of Lukaku remaining at Inter next season. However, uncertainties surrounding the appointment of a new manager at his parent club, Chelsea, leave his future uncertain.

What is certain, however, is that San Siro will once again be filled with vibrant colors and resounding noise as two of Italy's leading teams recreate the days when they were among Europe's elite.

Inter fans have valid reasons to be confident, considering their healthy lead from the first leg and their current excellent form. Simone Inzaghi's side has triumphed in seven consecutive matches, scoring 20 goals in the process. Their newfound confidence has been absent for most of an unusual league season in which they have suffered 11 defeats, more than any other team in Serie A's European qualification places.

In contrast, Milan enters Tuesday's match in disarray following an embarrassing loss to lowly Spezia. The defeat led to a post-match discussion between coach Stefano Pioli, the players, and the disappointed away supporters. Pioli and his team displayed remorse, while Milan's hardcore ultras attempted to motivate them, hoping to remedy the shortcomings witnessed in the first leg.

Crucially, Rafael Leao, the Portuguese winger who was sorely missed in the first leg due to a thigh injury, is expected to make his return on Tuesday. His presence will significantly boost Milan, as he has played a vital role in their journey to the semifinals, a feat they last accomplished in 2007. Without Leao last week, the seven-time European champions lacked cutting edge and struggled.

"We are playing a match that could make history for us. We need to believe that we can beat Inter," stated Pioli on Saturday. "Our performances in the last two matches have not been good enough, but we are capable of playing much better."
